Indian man Rohitash Kumar woke up to find something was amiss; he was lying on a pile of wood with people holding torches around him… Was he about to be cremated??
25-year-old Rohitash, who has speech and hearing impairments, had been staying at a local shelter for the past month.
Last Thursday, he developed a fever, and his condition rapidly deteriorated, rendering him unconscious, so he was rushed to BDK (Rajkiya Bhagwan Das Khetan) Hospital in Khetri, Rajasthan, for emergency treatment.
The doctors at BDK Hospital, after diagnosing him, declared Rohitash dead, and his body was moved to the hospital morgue’s freezer.
According to hospital protocol, the deceased must undergo an autopsy to determine the cause of death before funeral arrangements can proceed. However, for some reason, the hospital skipped the autopsy step, providing a report to the welfare organization, who then took the body away.
At the crematorium, the welfare organization was preparing for Rohitash’s cremation.
They placed him on the funeral pyre, and just as they were about to light it, Rohitash suddenly began to breathe rapidly, then started convulsing as if his brain was reconnecting with his limbs after a long sleep.
The sight naturally scared the welfare workers, who scattered in panic…

After a while, a few brave souls realized that Rohitash had not actually died; he was in a state of suspended animation. They mustered the courage to take him back to BDK Hospital.
Carrying someone out of a crematorium is quite a rare sight…
As for why Rohitash “came back to life,” doctors speculate that he was placed in a deep freezer in a state of suspended animation, where the body’s metabolic functions slow down significantly, making it hard to detect vital signs, but he was indeed still alive.
Unfortunately, he did not make it in the end.
BDK Hospital admitted Rohitash to the ICU, but his condition did not improve. He was then transferred to another local hospital, where he passed away the next morning.
The second hospital issued an autopsy report stating that Rohitash died of “respiratory failure due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other lung conditions,” emphasizing that this time he was truly dead, with no mistake.
(Entering a crematorium twice is quite unique)
It’s unfortunate that he could not be saved, and now the focus is on holding the medical staff accountable for this incident.
The local government has established a committee to investigate the hospital’s negligence. The preliminary investigation shows that the doctors at the first hospital did not perform an autopsy, merely filling out paperwork before sending the body away.
Currently, three doctors involved in the incident have been suspended and are under investigation. They will be disciplined for “gross misconduct and dereliction of duty.”
In fact, such situations are common in India, especially in remote areas, where most doctors issue death certificates without conducting autopsies, allowing bodies to be cremated. In a densely populated country like India, this can easily lead to the secret spread of infectious diseases.
Netizens also feel that the doctors’ actions were highly unethical:
“I’m not sure if this can be called a miracle; it’s more like ‘incompetence.'”

“But imagine if he woke up during the autopsy; that would be even scarier!”

In summary, it’s truly something only in India…
