If not for that event in July 1947, Roswell, New Mexico, might have remained just another dot on the map. Back then, something unidentifiable and inexplicable plunged into the dry desert. Initial military reports spoke of a “flying disc.” But quickly, the narrative shifted to a mundane explanation of a weather balloon, which only stirred more questions than answers. The line between fact and myth started to blur. This wasn’t an isolated incident; it was the start of a legend, a runaway tale that would seep into the collective consciousness of a nation, and even the world. Roswell became the cornerstone of the modern UFO myth, a mixture of fact and fiction that continues to fascinate and perplex us today.
Ancient Echoes of the Unexplained
Interestingly, ancient Chinese texts also document UFO-like phenomena. The Dream Pool Essays of the Song Dynasty, mentions a giant “clam” in a lake in Yangzhou, which opened its shell to emit blinding light, illuminating the surrounding area for miles. The Zhuxi County Annals described a shimmering “silver plate” that appeared in the northeast in 1862. It flew for a while then exploded, with sparks illuminating the nearby region. And the Songzi County Annals tells of a Mr. Tan from Hubei who saw a flashing object approach him. He then lost consciousness and vaguely felt the wind rushing past his ears. When he awoke, he was hundreds of miles away in Guizhou.
Roswell is often cited as the first notable case. The topic of UFOs is always of interest. Regardless of whether we believe in them or not, they have been reported all over the globe, even in China in places like Sichuan, Beijing and Liaoning. The Encounters
1. The Roswell Incident
In July 1947, a mysterious object crashed near Roswell, New Mexico. Debris was recovered, which many believed was from an alien craft. By the late 1970s, doubts began to surface, with some suggesting it was an experimental military aircraft. Many still refuse to accept that explanation, maintaining that it was indeed a UFO.
2. The Cash-Landrum Incident
On December 29, 1980, Betty Cash, Vickie Landrum, and Vickie’s seven-year-old grandson, Colby, were driving home when a bright light appeared, followed by an object descending from the sky. Vickie, a devout Christian, initially thought it was the second coming of Jesus. Upon closer inspection, they felt intense heat. The mysterious object emitted light and heat. In the following years, they all experienced chronic headaches.
3. The Chupacabra Encounters
Around April 2000, there was a surge in reports of UFO sightings and alien encounters. One such report described police chasing a light to a ranch. Believing it to be a flying saucer, they found only a scene of slaughtered livestock, their blood drained from their bodies, along with unexplainable roars. This event became associated with the creature called Chupacabra, or the “Goatsucker.”
4. The Kecksburg UFO Incident
On the evening of December 9, 1965, residents of Kecksburg, Pennsylvania, saw a fireball streak across the night sky. The object, described as shaped like a giant acorn, appeared to crash into a nearby forest. Military personnel quickly cordoned off the area and hauled away the object on a flatbed truck. Theories about the object ranged from a meteor, to an experimental aircraft, a manmade probe, and an alien spacecraft.
5. The Rendlesham Forest Incident
In 1980, Britain experienced its own UFO incident. On the morning of December 27, 1980, U.S. Air Force personnel at RAF Woodbridge near Rendlesham Forest in Suffolk reported seeing a strange metallic object flying through the woods. Often referred to as “Britain’s Roswell,” this event has never been fully explained.
6. The Varginha Incident
In 1996, multiple witnesses, including three young women, reported seeing strange beings in Varginha, Brazil. The Brazilian military was said to have captured eight of these beings, one of whom had died, two were injured, and five were in normal condition. The creatures were described as being 4-5 feet tall, with a honeybee-like buzzing sound, three protrusions on their heads, oily brown skin, large red eyes, and a strong ammonia-like odor.
7. The Belgian UFO Wave
Between November 29, 1989, and April 1990, there were a number of triangular UFO sightings in Belgium. This case is remarkable for having over a thousand witnesses, and also is one of the rare UFO cases acknowledged by a country’s military.
8. The Battle of Los Angeles
Five years prior to the Roswell incident, a secret aerial battle took place over Los Angeles. On February 1942, an unidentified object appeared over Los Angeles, prompting fears of a Japanese attack. Six people died, three due to friendly fire, and three due to heart attacks. The event has never been fully explained, with officials claiming it was simply mass war hysteria.
9. The Colares UFO Incident
Beginning in 1977, numerous sightings of UFOs were reported in Colares, Brazil. Similar to the Cash-Landrum incident, those who experienced the Colares UFO phenomena suffered various ailments. Dr. Wellaide Carvalho treated 35 patients, who she diagnosed with radiation poisoning. Symptoms included fatigue, dizziness, headaches, and anemia.
10. The Phoenix Lights
On March 13, 1997, one person reported seeing a V-shaped object fly over his town. Thousands of others saw the same object, described as a V-shaped craft with six lights along the side. The U.S. military insisted it was A-10 aircraft, but local residents strongly disagreed.
