The Birth of Mickey Eggs: Unveiling Disney’s Kitchen Magic

People who have eaten eggs at Disney have a question: Does Disney have magic? Why do even the eggs have Mickey Mouse inside?!

Besides flat ones, there are even more amazing 3D versions where the Mickey yolk not only has clear facial features but also protrudes from the egg white. This… can’t be something Mickey and Minnie laid, right?

First, I found a DIY video on making Mickey-shaped eggs to understand the principle.

❶ After cracking the eggs, carefully separate the yolk from the white.

❷ Shape the eggshell into a half-shell, steam the egg white inside until cooked (the cut edge of the shell is fairly smooth).

❸ Then, use a spoon, straw, or other small tools to carve out a simple Mickey head.

❹ Beat the egg yolk liquid and pour it into the indentation.

❺ After cooking, a Mickey egg is complete! Welcome to the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse~

But here’s the problem: Disney certainly can’t do this manually for every egg, or the Mickeys would look different every time. There must be a mold, right? After searching, the copyright protection is too strong; I couldn’t find any Mickey head molds…

I furrowed my brows and changed my approach! The principle should be the same as for heart-shaped eggs, just a different pattern. And sure enough, I found it~ It’s the fancy egg cooker below. I originally planned to buy one for a real-life demo, but it’s too expensive at several hundred dollars. So let’s look at the diagrams instead.

In the diagram below, the leftmost item is an egg yolk and white separator. Then, A is the egg-cooking container, and B is the heart-shaped mold cylinder. A+B forms a cavity where the heart shape indents inward.

❶ First, separate the yolk and white;

❷ Then, coat A and B with a bit of oil to prevent sticking, cook the egg white until it forms a hollow cavity;

❸ Add the yolk, cover, and cook until done.

If you replace the cylindrical outer mold with an eggshell shape and the inner mold with a Mickey design, making flat Mickey-shaped boiled eggs is easy!

With the groundwork laid out, we can first conclude that 3D Mickey eggs must also involve separating and then recombining the yolk and white, but the yolk needs to be shaped into a 3D form.

For a detailed finish with textured relief, you can understand it using the soft silicone mold below.

First, sieve the egg yolk liquid into the mold and cook it until set, then place it face-up on the egg white and continue steaming. Once fully solidified, the yolk and white become one again, and voilà, the 3D Mickey boiled egg is complete~
