Tighten the noose in the Middle East! Ministry of National Defense: indefinite military presence in three neighboring countries!

April 16, 2025 – According to an Associated Press report, Israel’s Defense Minister, Yoav Katz, announced on April 16 that the Israeli military would remain indefinitely in the so-called “security zones” in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria. This statement could complicate negotiations with Hamas over a ceasefire and the release of hostages.

Israeli Military Actions and Pressures on Hamas

The Israeli military has occupied more than half of Gaza in its latest operation. This move is part of the Israeli effort to pressure Hamas into releasing hostages. Last month, Israel ended its ceasefire agreement. After a ceasefire with Hezbollah in Lebanon last year, Israel refused to withdraw from certain areas in Lebanon. In December 2024, following the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad‘s government by Syrian opposition forces, Israel seized a buffer zone in southern Syria.

Israel’s Military Strategy: No Withdrawal from Occupied Zones

Katz stated that, “Unlike in the past, the military will not withdraw from areas that have been cleared and occupied.” The Israeli forces will remain in the security zones. They will act as a buffer between enemy forces and Israeli communities. This decision will stand regardless of whether the situation in Gaza, Lebanon, or Syria is temporary or permanent.

International Law and Reactions from Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria

Palestinians, along with their two neighboring countries, Lebanon and Syria, view Israel’s military presence as a violation of international law and military occupation. Hamas has stated that it will not release the remaining hostages unless Israel completely withdraws from Gaza. They demand a permanent ceasefire as a condition for their release.

Israel’s Justification for Military Presence

Israel justifies its control over these territories to prevent a repeat of the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. The Israeli government maintains that its actions are necessary for security. They argue this will help prevent further conflicts in the region.
