TOKYO, Oct 16 (Information On Japan) –
Japan’s Nuclear Regulation Authority has granted approval for Kansai Electrical Energy Firm’s Takahama Reactor No. 1 to function for over 50 years, marking a primary in Japan, reaching its fiftieth anniversary subsequent month.
Takahama Reactor No. 1, which started operations in 1974, is the oldest working nuclear reactor in Japan. After the Nice East Japan Earthquake, the overall rule for nuclear reactor operation was set at 40 years. Nonetheless, Takahama Reactor No. 1 was allowed a 20-year extension following a “particular inspection.”
Continued operation requires approval of security rules each 10 years, and on October sixteenth, the Nuclear Regulation Authority authorised the security rules submitted by Kansai Electrical.
This marks the primary time in Japan {that a} reactor has been authorised to function for over 50 years.
