Wellington Mara, the late co-owner of the New York Giants, has been named because the staff’s nominee for the 2024 Salute to Service Award.
The Salute to Service Award, offered by USAA, “acknowledges the distinctive efforts by members of the NFL group to honor and assist U.S. service members, veterans, and their households.”
Mara, who handed away in 2005, has not too long ago been within the information after the NFL Community aired a documentary about his life final week.
A World Struggle II Navy veteran, Mara “spent his life honoring, empowering and connecting with service members, veterans and their households.”
Mara’s father, Tim, based the New York Giants in 1925 and he and his brother, Jack, took management of the staff upon their father’s dying in 1959. The Mara household nonetheless owns 50 % of the franchise to this present day.
