North Korea has been eliminated as an observer of a regional anti-money laundering group because of its lack of engagement and failure to satisfy obligations, South Korea’s overseas ministry mentioned Monday.
The unanimous resolution was made on the twenty sixth basic meeting of the Asia Pacific Group on Cash Laundering (APG), held within the United Arab Emirates final Tuesday, the ministry mentioned in a press launch.
The APG, fashioned in 1997, is an intergovernmental physique dedicated to successfully implementing the worldwide requirements towards cash laundering, and combating the financing of terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
At the moment, the APG consists of 42 member states, together with the USA, Japan and China. South Korea joined the group in 1998.
North Korea obtained the APG observer place in July 2014.
