BRUSSELS – The president of the European Committee of the Areas, Vasco Cordeiro, warned as we speak that cohesion coverage is important for the competitiveness of the European Union (EU) and can’t be thought of as a “charity coverage”.
“The EU wants a renewed and strengthened cohesion coverage,” Vasco Cordeiro started by saying throughout a listening to within the European Parliament (EP) in Brussels.
The president of the European Committee of the Areas added that this concept will not be new and has already been included in a number of proposals made to enhance the competitiveness of the bloc, together with “the Draghi report [drafted by former Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi], printed as we speak, which significantly highlighted the significance of cohesion coverage”.
A powerful and clear cohesion coverage, Vasco Cordeiro argued, is important for the “competitiveness and vitality” of the European Union.
However for that, it’s mandatory to think about cohesion coverage as “a coverage for all areas”.
“It’s not a charity coverage; it’s a coverage that strengthens the capability of areas to face challenges and the truth that it’s for all areas means it must be tailored to every area or group of areas,” he concluded.
This coverage, he added, “can’t be considered just for much less developed areas”. (10/09/24)
