A number of hearth engines had been at Marks & Spencer in Parliament Road with lights flashing at round 6pm tonight (Thursday, October 24).
The within of the shop was evacuated and clients had been ready exterior.
Members of the M&S emergency staff remained contained in the store.
Fireplace crews from West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and Humberside Fireplace and Rescue Service had been on the scene.
Shortly after 6pm an alarm sound might be heard from contained in the constructing. Visitors passing the southern finish of M&S was at a standstill.
However at round 6.40pm employees from M&S could possibly be seen re-entering the store and hearth crews left the scene. The incident is believed to have been a false alarm after a hearth alarm was activated.
