On Tradition Day, November third, manga artist Tetsuya Chiba, 85, expressed his pleasure at receiving the Order of Tradition from the Emperor, saying, ‘I imagine Osamu Tezuka could be the happiest for me proper now.’
The Emperor awarded the Order of Tradition to Chiba, recognized for the manga Ashita no Joe, together with poet Mutsuo Takahashi, 86, painter Toshio Tabuchi, 83, cellist Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, 82, and three others in a ceremony held on the Imperial Palace.
In his deal with, the Emperor remarked, “I’m genuinely happy by your years of dedication, outstanding achievements, and contributions to advancing our tradition.”
Tetsuya Chiba “I imagine Osamu Tezuka could be the happiest for me proper now, seeing that (manga) is now acknowledged as a part of our tradition.”
The Emperor, accompanied by the Empress, their daughter Princess Aiko, Prince Akishino and his spouse, in addition to their youthful daughter Princess Kako, will meet with the award recipients for a dialogue on November fifth.
