Japan’s Ministry of the Setting introduced on the third that the mongoose, an invasive species recognized for preying on uncommon native species and disrupting the ecosystem on Amami Oshima, Kagoshima Prefecture, has been formally eradicated.
The island is a part of a UNESCO World Pure Heritage web site. In line with the Ministry, “There is no such thing as a precedent globally for the eradication of mongoose on an island as massive and long-occupied as Amami Oshima,” suggesting that this case might function a reference mannequin for future measures in opposition to invasive species.
