The function of native and regional authorities in successfully responding to the challenges going through European democracies, in supporting Ukraine, defending human rights, saving the setting, and enabling younger individuals’s involvement is the main target of a convention of associations of native and regional authorities from the Council of Europe’s 46 member states, that began on 12 September.
The convention was opened by Marc Cools, President of the Congress of Native and Regional Authorities; Arnoldas Abramavičius, Vice-Minister of Inside, on behalf of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Committee of Ministers; Bjørn Berge, Deputy Secretary Basic of the Council of Europe; and Congress Youth Delegate from Andorra Lisa Cruz Lackner.
Ekrem Imamoglu, Mayor of Istanbul and President of the Union of Turkish Municipalities, and Gunn Marit Helgesen, President of the Norwegian Affiliation of Native and Regional Authorities and President of the Council of European Municipalities and Areas, opened the controversy on the function of nationwide associations in strengthening territorial democracy.
“Resilience, reconstruction and reform of Ukraine”, “Boosting democracy by participating all residents” and “Native innovation for stronger native authorities” are the themes of the spherical tables to be held as a part of the convention.
On 13 September, the occasion individuals adopted a joint declaration to reaffirm the dedication to the Council of Europe’s values and requirements.
The occasion, which was streamed on-line, coincided with the Council of Europe’s seventy fifth anniversary and the thirtieth anniversary of the Congress, and is held underneath the auspices of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Committee of Ministers.
