On September 16, the nonprofit organization NCQA (National Committee for Quality Assurance) announced its 2024 Health Plan Ratings, showing a slight increase in 5-star plans. The annual list evaluates commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid health plans based on patient experience and clinical quality assessments.
The press release stated that the ratings were based on 2023 data when about 227 million people were enrolled in health plans reporting Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) results. Plans were rated on a scale of 1-5 stars and based on 50 assessments of patient care outcomes.
The plans with the highest scores were Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Inc., Independent Health Association, Inc., Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Colorado- and the Mid-Atlantic States, Inc., and Network Health Insurance Corporation (NHIC).
