In recent days, UK police have announced the dismantling of a cult organization, sparking widespread discussion on the internet.
Unlike the usual cults that brainwash through religion, members of this group joined voluntarily, with the sole purpose of “castrating themselves.”
While stories related to castration have occasionally made headlines in recent years, the emergence of a cult-like following has raised the curiosity threshold among onlookers. 
A police spokesperson stated, “Between December 7th and December 10th, 2021, London police searched a residence in Finsbury Park, arresting 7 members of the ‘Nullo’ cult, aged between 30 and 60, who had already cut off their own penises and gathered there to watch others undergo the procedure.”
The leader was a 44-year-old Norwegian man known as “The Eunuch Maker,” who admitted to castrating dozens of men. He has now been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy and causing grievous bodily harm. (He has since been released on bail)
The “Nullo” cult organization is not just the name of this small group; its full name is “genital nullification,” a term used for those who “voluntarily remove their sexual organs.”
According to incomplete statistics, around 10,000 to 15,000 people worldwide pursue castration, but the actual number remains a mystery.
The report states that this group is influenced by subcultures, considering themselves as “genderless,” independent of male or female identities, predominantly male. They choose to undergo voluntary genital removal surgery, longing to remove their penises but do not consider themselves female post-surgery.
“Every day I wake up praying for my penis to disappear, but it’s still there.”
“I can’t even begin to tell you how much I want to rid myself of these unnecessary parts.”
Under the principle of “willing castration,” the Nullo community has long been a niche, even to the point of being virtually invisible, until this event brought a large police force to arrest people, which can be traced back to the Norwegian man who organized it.
Many years ago, the Norwegian man performed a DIY castration on himself, and his successful case attracted many others to seek his help.
With years of “stable output,” he turned it into a business, opening a film studio to record the procedures and post them on dark web forums, charging per view and sometimes even live-streaming.
What’s even more absurd is that to expand his “fame,” he advertised on Twitter…

Such blatant soliciting naturally caught the attention of UK police, who, following numerous online leads, found this restricted streaming house and spent three days searching and collecting evidence.
Neighbors were quite shocked by the commotion, telling the media, “The police surrounded the house for days and took away desktops, laptops, and other things.”
Now that the case has been publicized, one can only wonder what the neighbors must be thinking…
The police have not revealed much, but as the event spread, major media outlets like the Daily Mail, The Sun, and The Independent quickly followed up, uncovering more details.
Although this is the first Nullo organization discovered in the UK, the idea of live-streaming castration for profit might have been inspired by Japan.
In 2012, a 22-year-old Japanese artist, Mao Sugiyama, chose to undergo castration on his birthday, completely removing his penis and testicles.
Two months later, Sugiyama decided to “artistically” process his removed genitals.
He posted on social media: “Please share, I will sell my penis, which was removed from my body, for 100,000 yen (approximately £880) to make a meal for you. I will cook it according to the buyer’s request and location.”
To avoid unnecessary trouble, although Sugiyama particularly stated he had no diseases, he emphasized that guests must sign a waiver: if they got sick from eating his penis, he would not be responsible.
Once the announcement was made, Sugiyama’s event attracted significant attention, and surprisingly, five diners bid £250 each for this unique meal.
To raise awareness about “third gender, asexuals, and sexual minorities,” Sugiyama decided to turn the originally private tasting into a public banquet for 70 people.
On the day of the banquet, all guests were invited to a restaurant in Suginami Ward, Tokyo, where Sugiyama even prepared a piano performance before the event started.
According to footage from the evening, Sugiyama, dressed as a chef, personally prepared this special dinner for the five diners, serving “penis as the main course” with parsley and mushrooms as side dishes. Other guests had beef and crocodile meat.
During the cooking, Sugiyama jokingly remarked, “There will be no more chances for indecent exposure charges.”
Unfortunately, the dish was not as successful as imagined. One diner described, “The meal didn’t leave a strong impression; people at the table said it was too bland, with a texture like rubber…”
This negative review caught the attention of a culinary director from a food website, who, in a spirit of not missing out on any excitement, wrote to Sugiyama, saying, “What a waste of a perfect penis! It’s very tough and needs to be cooked slowly, either sous-vide or stewed.”

Although Japanese law does not criminalize cannibalism, this tasting event still drew police attention. A spokesperson from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department stated, “Publicly displaying a severed penis to a gathered crowd” falls under indecent exposure, which could lead to a two-year prison sentence and a fine of up to 2.5 million yen.
However, as the event’s popularity waned, these charges were dropped in 2013.

Sugiyama’s choice of this heavy-handed approach is also related to specific “fetishes” within “castration culture.”
Aside from physical castration, “cannibalism” and “sexual assault” are two major issues the Nullo community cannot avoid.
Although this group does not have a broad audience, in the cases that have come to light, castrated individuals often suffer sexual assault, and in more extreme cases, the removed penis is eaten by the “surgeon.”
This phenomenon has a basis; choosing a reputable hospital for castration is not only expensive but also requires a long wait. Thus, people with mixed motives become “surgeons,” some of whom are also part of the Nullo community.
A survey of 2,971 people who had undergone castration found that “surgeons” were three times more likely to engage in inappropriate behavior than “patients.”
Regarding this situation, someone who underwent castration in 1994 explained, “It has to be said, the whole surgical process can really be exciting.”
