A hearth broke out at a shrine in Ami-machi, Ibaraki Prefecture, burning a sacred tree over 500 years previous, with police investigating the trigger as a lightning strike.
A person dwelling close by referred to as 119 at round 4:45 pm on Wednesday to report that “smoke was popping out of the tree” within the grounds of Kashima Shrine in Ami-machi.
In line with police and different sources, the sacred tree was on hearth, however nobody was injured.
