Legendary Football Star “Dies” in Greece, But Fans Were Fooled for Decades

When news spread that Manchester United legend Remi Moses had passed away, dozens of mourners traveled to his retirement home on Zakynthos, Greece, to pay their respects.

At the small church on the island, the coffin held Remi, still wearing his iconic Manchester United jersey.

The ceremony was simple, leaving some attendees puzzled. Surprisingly, Manchester United sent no representatives and held no memorial. He was the first black player to score for the club, making him a unique figure in the team’s history.

The attendees, however, were moved. Many expressed their heartfelt respect and even shed tears. Afterwards, they proceeded to the cemetery as Remi’s widow, Yuta, thanked each person for attending and making the funeral so special.

But here’s the twist—Remi Moses was alive, living in Manchester. The person buried on Zakynthos was actually Kenneth Sims, a retired marketing executive from Hertfordshire with Caribbean heritage.

Kenneth had been a lifelong Manchester United fan. In his later years, he became obsessed with Remi Moses, fully convincing himself and even his third wife, Yuta, that he was the football legend.

The Ultimate Impersonation

Kenneth’s dedication went far beyond self-deception. He fooled local friends, neighbors, and even the president of Doxa Pigadakion, a Greek football club, claiming he was Remi Moses and even coaching the women’s team voluntarily.

Club officials recalled: “He came to the club as a retiree but wanted to stay involved with football. Another coach introduced him as Remi Moses, the Manchester United legend. He spoke knowledgeably about football, shared videos, and even described playing against Barcelona when he was active.”

Kenneth’s coaching seemed genuine. “Everyone believed he was the real Remi Moses,” said the club’s senior staff. “He understood football deeply, especially Manchester United history. He even showed old match footage claiming, ‘This is how I played.’”

The Funeral Confusion

After Kenneth passed away, the club received a notice from Yuta stating “Remi” had died. The club announced the death globally, unaware of the deception. Yuta, too, had believed she married Remi Moses, thinking it was simply his professional nickname.

When Kenneth’s true identity was revealed, the funeral became awkward. The coffin still held him in a red Manchester United jersey. Club officials admitted: “It was bizarre. Everyone on the island believed he was Remi. Even taking photos and giving interviews, he maintained the illusion.”

The Real Remi Moses

The actual Remi Moses continues to live in Manchester. He didn’t speak to the media, but a relative—also named Remi Moses, his son—confirmed: “My father never visited Zakynthos. He was shocked by the false news and happily answered our call.”

Despite the mix-up, the real Remi holds no grudge. “He would forgive Kenneth. People make mistakes. What matters is the support and mourning from fans. That part was genuinely touching.”

Kenneth’s impersonation remains a strange yet fascinating story—a testament to obsession, admiration, and the blurred lines between fandom and reality.
